Bridal Boudoir Photography
When you think about your wedding day, what comes to mind? The dress, the venue, the guests? If you’re like many brides-to-be, a lot of these thoughts may be more stressful than they are celebratory. There’s so much going on that it can be challenging to focus on all of the reasons behind such a fantastic time in your life.
That’s where Bridal Boudoir comes in! Bridal boudoir photography is all about YOU and celebrating YOU before saying “I do.” After all, you want to look back on your wedding day with as many happy memories as possible, and what better way to do that than to enjoy a little “me” time?
What is a wedding or bridal boudoir?
Bridal Boudoir photography is a type of wedding photography that focuses on capturing one last glimpse of a bride before she says, “I do.” A wedding boudoir session is all about celebrating the bride-to-be in her own unique way, with classic, elegant looks that are focused on her personality.
Often, the session is kept a secret from the groom to be even more special! This is the perfect gift not only for your fiancé to enjoy in the years ahead but for you as well. Whether you’re looking for sultry shots or fun and flirty, there’s truly something for every bride. Because most importantly, this session is about YOU! It’s all about showing off your personality and cutting loose after weeks (or months) of stressing over wedding plans.
Why do brides need a boudoir photoshoot in their lives?
There are many reasons why brides should enjoy a boudoir photo shoot. Some reasons include:
- It’s easy to get caught up in the wedding planning process. It’s essential for brides-to-be to focus on themselves rather than other items such as wedding arrangements.
- This is time dedicated to YOU before your biggest day! This is a new experience that will have you glowing on your wedding day. You can bet all our brides that do a boudoir shoot absolutely loved her pictures and experience! #Empowerment
- Allows the bride to celebrate herself in the weeks before her wedding and not be worried about anything else.
- For fun!! It’s a great way to kick off your honeymoon! and let’s be honest, it is quite literally the sexiest gift to you both to start this new chapter of your life!
- Help you see yourself the way your partner sees you! To give you space to love yourself, your unique beauty, and womanhood before celebrating this next chapter of your life!
There are many reasons why you should consider having a boudoir photo shoot as part of your bridal experience. You’ll be looking back on these photos with nothing but happy memories and gratitude that you treated yourself the way you deserve.
What Do Brides Wear to Their Bridal Boudoir Photo Shoot?
You will always hear Sara, and I say there are no set rules on what type of outfits are okay for a boudoir shoot. That is one of the things we love and cherish about it and also what makes every session unique and special!
With that said, we also give advice and guidelines to make sure everything will fit the look and feel you are going for. We’ve done boudoir sessions with brides wearing everything from lingerie to sweaters, t-shirts, the bride’s dress, pants, and of course, nothing at all.
Specifically, in bridal boudoir, white lingerie is a popular choice for brides. Lingerie is a classic choice that accentuates the curves of any figure. Lace and tulle are also popular options. Layers and textures make for an image that feels so timeless and elegant, and intimate. If you’re looking for something playful or sultry, bring a veil or silk robe, there is so much you can do to play with your look, and we love it all!
As far as outfits, white lacy lingerie such as a two-piece or teddy will create great images. However, other outfits will also look nice as long as they complement the bride’s figure. Your Photographer will direct you on posing in front of the camera, but if anything (such a corset) is too tight, that may restrict posing. The key to feeling sexy in front of the camera is to make sure you are feeling comfortable in your own skin for your boudoir experience.
* Bonus Tip: If you want your bridal boudoir photos to make the perfect wedding gift, don’t forget to bring a bouquet of flowers, an engagement ring, and your fiance’s shirt. If you want to see more outfit ideas, read our article What Boudoir Lingerie to Wear So You Look Amazing.
Should the bride bring anyone with her?
A lot of people think it’s best to have a friend come with you to your boudoir shoot. Especially if you have never done a boudoir session. Having a friend or family member come with you can help you feel more relaxed and more comfortable.
However, from personal experience, bringing somebody may unexpectedly make you feel less relaxed than intended during your shoot, especially if you are already feeling nervous. But don’t worry! Professional boudoir and wedding photographers will make you feel empowered and feel confident during the session no matter if you are outgoing or a complete introvert. It is part of the job and we love it!
One of our goals is to make sure you are radiant with confidence. Often, when a bride brings someone and they are posing for the camera, they may be worried about looking sexy or silly. That is why it is vital to make sure your guest is encouraging and positive. Otherwise, despite the best intentions they may take away from your bridal boudoir photo shoot rather than add to it!
If you want to bring a companion, then that is absolutely your choice. At Crown and Mirror Boudoir, we always ask questions to find out what is going to be best for you to give you the experience you deserve.
The benefits of a Bridal Boudoir session
We truly believe the best bridal gift you can give yourself is a wedding boudoir photography session. This is an experience that you will want to have before the big day. Nobody deserves more than you do for someone to spoil and nurture you through the hectic times of wedding planning. No matter how busy life gets, this gift will remain with you forever, and it will remind you of your beauty and worth for years to come!
One of our favorite benefits of the session is that the bride gets to plan her session according to her personality and tastes. For some women, they might want a more natural candid look, while others might enjoy doing a sultry look. We do not judge and will provide any type of inspiration and guidance that you may need to make your session as special as possible!
One last tip: don’t overthink it! Getting a boudoir experience is all about getting comfortable with yourself and enjoying this process. At Crown and Mirror, we make sure to follow up with you before your session to make sure you have a good idea of what you would like to get out of your experience. This is a stress-free opportunity for you to feel as glamorous and elegant as you deserve!
If you are looking to add an element of sizzle to your boudoir shoot, feel free to bring accessories such as wedding shoes, flowers, sashes, and a veil to add a pop of color and detail. You can also bring a Bouquet, shirt, or a piece of lingerie from your significant other as a sweet surprise!
There are many brides who want to do a session as a gift to share with their other half. Intimate portraits for the one you love is an amazing gift, but in EVERY boudoir session we do, we want to make sure the main priority is always to celebrate you.
When should I schedule my bridal boudoir session?
The Best Time to Schedule a Boudoir Session is about 3 months before your wedding
3 months is a general rule, but there are exceptions to this. Your boudoir session can be scheduled any time after your wedding, but we’d suggest taking portraits a month earlier. It’s the place you will find a sweet spot where you plan the big event.
This leaves time for your boudoir or wedding photographer to order prints or design an album as an ideal wedding gift, and you will still have plenty of time to finish the last-minute tasks you’re supposed to be doing before. This also leaves time to order an album and/or prints if desired.
On the flip side, Many women schedule a boudoir session to give as a wedding gift before the ceremony, so having time before the ceremony to get it ordered would be ideal! A lot of brides will have their boudoir album delivered to their groom right before the ceremony and nothing will make them race faster down the aisle than that!
Lastly, we often do bridal boudoir shoots as well to celebrate wedding anniversaries, which we still suggest the 3-month time frame as this allows any prints or albums from your bridal boudoir shoot to be ordered in time for the anniversary, ensuring you’ll never forget your first married year!
Same Day Bridal Boudoir Photo Shoot
Same-day bridal boudoir photos work phenomenally well and can still be a surprise for your wedding night. Often, we will do a full edit of a few photos from your photo shoot after your session. Then we will send you your boudoir photo via a “gift package” to your hotel room or your own home. Lastly, we time the images to be delivered the same time frame you get the photos from your special day, so it is one complete package!
One HUGE tip: Please know how to fit your boudoir photo shoot into your wedding timeline. Whether it is taking place in your home, boudoir studio, or fancy hotel, you want to have enough room to either have your hair and make-up already done or have enough time to have it done before your session. I would suggest giving yourself at least an hour for hair and makeup, but if you can give yourself even more time, that is ideal.
Should I Use A Wedding Photographer or Boudoir Photographer for Bridal Boudoir Photos?
For a fun fact, Sara and I used to do weddings, but then we started Crown and Mirror Boudoir because we loved doing boudoir so much! We personally enjoy creating an empowering and uplifting boudoir experience for every woman! I love coming up with bridal boudoir photography ideas that will make every woman look and feel like a queen and most importantly, her beautiful authentic self!
With that said, there are wedding photographers who can do a phenomenal job creating an empowering experience as well as create stunning imagery. Many wedding photographers offer a discount if you book bridal boudoir photography along with your wedding photography. However, depending on what you envision, it isn’t always the best idea to have the same person take your wedding pictures and your boudoir pictures for several reasons.
- Boudoir is a different type of photography than weddings – For one, boudoir is a very personal experience, and a photographer who mostly does weddings may not know how to create the right environment for such a personal experience. Also, the posing, lighting, and circumstances are quite different from a wedding. A boudoir photographer who specializes in boudoir photography knows which poses are flattering and how to move throughout a room with ease, creating beauty and bring empowerment in every situation.
- The Empowerment – The second point is if a woman wants to do a bridal boudoir shoot, but maybe she is shy or not feeling too comfortable with her body. She may feel inhibited around a photographer who takes wedding photos because they may not know how to make a bride feels comfortable and sexy when doing what feels like an awkward pose (Trust me, all the amazing and natural poses may look awkward in real life!) Someone who doesn’t specialize in boudoir might also not be able to recommend outfits that can look flattering on her body. (Buying sexy lingerie doesn’t always mean you are going to feel great in it, so knowing how to select the best outfits for your body type is important.)
- More empowerment – boudoir photographer specializes in empowering women to feel comfortable, sexy, and free during their sessions. Women who have never done a boudoir shoot before are often surprised that they can make a sexy expression or how amazing they feel in their own skin wearing lingerie that they typically wouldn’t wear.
- One last reason it might not be the best idea is if you want something very specific for your bridal boudoir shoot and don’t think your regular wedding photographer can capture it. For example, if you want a theme or a creative story from your shoot, then it might be best to get a boudoir photographer who specializes in boudoir photography rather than wedding photographers.
The Most Important Reason to Consider
One aspect to deeply consider is the dedication to your experience. For example, we have a hair and make up team who we constantly work with us and know how our studio likes to shoot. They know how we light, how we always flip hair, how we pose. They also naturally know how to hype you to feel sexy, pampered and build confidence that will show in front of the camera before your session has even started!
But most importantly, make-up for a boudoir session is VERY different than a wedding. Many techniques can be used for wedding photos but typically don’t translate well to boudoir.
If you aren’t worried about any of the points above, it is perfectly okay to use the same photographer that is capturing your wedding to do your wedding boudoir photography. There are plenty of peers I personally know who are amazing and talented at doing both.
How much does Boudoir Photography cost?
Boudoir photography pricing Will vary depending on what you are looking for
For example, if you want to rent an Airbnb house to yourself, a few hours with your photographer, makeup done by a professional stylist, hair styled by a professional hairstylist, use of our lighting setup, and blown away by your images in a private online gallery with printing rights + albums – all of that is going to be at least a few thousand dollars. Some photographers will charge according to the features you want, while others charge per hour or by package.
If you want something less expensive, but still want to see how amazing boudoir can make you feel within in an empowering environment – we offer exclusive collections starting at only $1200. If there is a bride out there who wants to feel like a queen, I want to do everything in my power to make it happen! However, this isn’t going to include the same amount of bells and whistles as our $5000 package, but every queen who has done any of our sessions, no matter what they payed, has walked away feeling like they got the complete package and they were treated like royalty.
(by the way, if you are still skeptical of whether boudoir photography is for you, I encourage you to contact me today and get more information on pricing and packages! )
The bottom line is – we can customize your boudoir experience to fit what you are looking for and your budget. I would say that it is a great idea to have expectations of what you are looking to get out of the experience and do your research on how much photographers typically charge for those services. Because there are photographers who will do a session for free, but more than likely they are either trying to build a portfolio, or they don’t have the time to properly invest in you to get the most out of your experience because they do a very high volume of photoshoots.
Is Wedding Boudoir Photography Right for Me?
The bottom line is, wedding boudoir photography is an extraordinary approach for you to feel empowered and beautiful before and after big day.
